The Pete Plan blog

I decided to have my first attempt at this month’s cross team challenge ( last night. It was scheduled for Friday this week, but the shorter session fit in well with my lack of desire for anything longer! In reality it is a fair bit harder work than the session I should have done last night, so at least I’m not shying away from the hard metres.

2000m = 6:49.7 / 1:42.4 / 29
1min rest
1500m = 5:07.5 / 1:42.5 / 29
1min rest
1000m = 3:24.4 / 1:42.2 / 29
1min rest
500m = 1:36.5 / 32

5000m = 16:58.0 / 1:41.8 / 29

It is an interesting training session. The 1min rest between the reps make it quite difficult to judge pace the first time, so I treated it as if it was a straight 5k and used the 3 x 1min rests as a nice bonus as I went through! My initial aim was to break 17mins for the overall 5k, but I have to say after the 2k all I cared about was getting through the set! Mentally the tough bit was the 1500m rep, once that is over the last two reps actually go by really quickly, and the 500m on the end is no problem. So I think the lesson for next time is to push the 1k much harder, because you can always (remind me this next time!) do a 500m at the end of a set like this.

Tuesday evening was:

10k = 37:59.7 / 1:53.9 / 23
2k splits:
7:36.0 / 1:54.0 / 23
7:35.9 / 1:53.9 / 23
7:36.0 / 1:54.0 / 23
7:35.9 / 1:53.9 / 23
7:35.9 / 1:53.9 / 23
