10k – Hard

Posted by thepeteplan on June 8, 2010

Casey, Jo and Jack came over from Brighton for a middle of the day training session in Farnborough. Jo and Jack went in wave one with the 5 x 5mins CTC, then Casey and I went over 10k.

I wanted a sub 35mins for the 10k, so went for the most efficient pacing method of 1:45’s flat all the way. It went like this:

1k splits:
1:44.9 / 28
1:45.0 / 28
1:44.8 / 27
1:45.0 / 27
1:45.0 / 27
1:45.1 / 27
1:45.1 / 27
1:45.0 / 27
1:45.1 / 27
1:43.0 / 28

10k = 34:56.9 / 1:44.8 / 27

I simply aimed for the metronomic approach as I knew it would get mentally tougher if at any point I slowed and so would have to catch back up later on. Happy with the time and it was a fun training day with everyone performing well. It was consistent enough, and felt good enough, that I know that physically I can go another second faster pace than this, which puts me at a good fitness point right now. It’s the fastest 10k I’ve done for a while, so feels good to go under 35mins again.
